The Buzz
The Smooth 5.65 treadmill features a silent 2.5 HP continuous duty motor with an advanced Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) circuit board. It has 2" rollers for the belt, a lower step-up height, and a 20" x 60" running surface that is significantly more roomy than the 20" x 50" tread belt on the 2009 model.
The 8-point Im-Pression shock absorption cushioning system provides for a soft landing for the front foot and firm push-off for the rear foot to help lessen fatigue in the user’s legs. In other features, the Smooth 5.65 still offers convenient handrail toggle switches for incline and speed controls, a 2-speed fan, and a deluxe sound system that allows you to play an iPod, Mp3, or CD player.
Treadmill reviews have tapped the Smooth 5.65 as one of the best models for sale at $999 (its usual sale price). The MSRP is $1999. At $1299, its value decreases slightly against competitor models, so wait and buy it when it is under $1000. The only criticism (a tiny one) is that while it has transport wheels, it is hard to move this 170-pound machine. It has a good hydraulic folding mechanism to help you store it up and out of the way, but by and large, treadmills this size are not meant to be hauled around very often.
What We Say
We gave the Smooth 5.65 folding treadmill a rave review back in 2009, and still recommend it in 2012 with this updated model. This is an impressive machine with an expanded warranty of 4 years on all parts and 2 years for in-home service. It is super quiet, has a large walking area, excellent cushioning, a stylish profile, and a cool-running motor. The upgrades and generous warranty prove that Smooth is serious about this model challenging the Sole F63 and the Livestrong 10.0 to see which treadmill will be the Big Dog at this price range. The Smooth 5.65 treadmill rates a Best Buy.
