Smooth Fitness has extended the commercial grade deck by 2" and added improvements to the treadbelt, but unfortunately they still haven’t added a wireless heart rate control. Still, keep in mind that the Smooth 5.45 is a budget treadmill, not a health club model, so you’d be advised to use it primarily for walking and casual jogging. What We SayThe Smooth 5.45 folding treadmill is well-liked by home gym owners as a reliable walker’s machine. It’s listed at $1497 MSRP but we’ve seen it on sale for $999. It’s affordable, offers a solid feel with no wobble, folds up and stores away easily, and has many features found in more expensive Smooth treadmills. We don’t particularly care for the style of the overly large display panel but that’s a minor point. If you can find the 5.45 for under $1000, it’s recommended. The Smooth 5.45 treadmill compares favorably to a NordicTrack Commercial 1500 (The best machine at $999 -- but hard to find) and the Sole F63.
