Smooth 5.25 Treadmills - Foldable Models under $1000

Smooth 5.25 treadmills are the budget-conscious offering by Smooth Fitness. They can be found for around $1,000 and give you more than you’d expect for the price. After all, it’s hard to find even a passable folding treadmill for less than $1,200 these days, and the Smooth 5.25 goes way beyond that.

The Machine

(This model has been discontinued)

Smooth 5.25 Treadmills These aren’t treadmills that are going to set the world on fire because of innovations or style, but for the price you shouldn’t expect them to. You should expect them to perform well, an area where they over-compensate. Features of the Smooth 5.25 folding model include:

  • 2.5 HP continuous duty motor
  • Pulse grip heart rate monitors
  • LCD display console
  • 20” x 53” running deck
  • 7 pre-set programs
  • Phenolic deck
  • Folding “soft drop” technology
  • 15% maximum incline
  • Lifetime warranty on frame and motor; 5 yrs. parts; 1 yr. labor

Smooth 5.25 Console Smooth 5.25 Folding Treadmill You’ll notice that the display console on this folding model is an LCD – not as attractive as the LED displays, but it still gives you the essential readings. Also falling under the “basics” category on Smooth 5.25 treadmills are the pulse grip heart rate monitors instead of the usual wireless chest strap found with more expensive treadmills.

The Buzz

Trainers will tell you that although you’re losing some features like the wireless heart rate monitor, the Smooth 5.25 retains the most important features – the ones that actually affect your performance. For instance, they like the phenolic treadmill deck and the 20” width, which is wider than you’ll usually find on a budget folding treadmill.

People who own the Smooth 5.25 stress the value – you can get this folding treadmill for under $1,000 folks! Most of these purchasers admit that they weren’t looking for something that would train them to run the Boston Marathon, so they don’t necessarily push it to the max.

What We Say

If you’re a serious, die-hard runner, you should move up a few levels rather than purchase the Smooth 5.25. However, if you’re going to step on and walk or jog several times a week for several years, then you should take a look at the Smooth 5.25 treadmills if you’re concerned about cost. You really can’t go much lower in price without seriously sacrificing quality.

The warranty is exceptional for a lower-end treadmill and customer service is generally good.
